But eventually, William and Tovar's agendas drift apart after William becomes seduced by the formal control and selfless zeal that defines the Nameless Order.Īnd who wouldn't be impressed? The Nameless Order marches around in colorful suits of armor that come in hues of indigo, crimson and cerulean. William and Tovar are initially unmoved by the Nameless Order's considerable plight they want to make their fortunes by stealing gunpowder from their hosts, and selling it to European traders. The monster, they are told, is a "Tei Tao," one of a horde of creatures that attacks the now-famous Great Wall of China once every 60 years. It not only talks about the new-gen women who question such unsung slavery but is also a tribute to the women who have been silently managing it inside every home for centuries.Damon and Pascal play William and Tovar, respectively, wandering European mercenaries who are captured by the Chinese army of the Nameless Order shortly after they slay a mysterious green monster. The Great Indian Kitchen comes as an eye-opener, at a time many women are still judged for their cooking skills than any other capabilities. Cinematography and editing too have to be mentioned. Mruduladevi and Dhanya Suresh Menon have penned songs of women, composed by Sooraj S Kurup. Nimisha and Suraj, who played a couple in Thondimuthalum Drisksakshiyum, put on convincing performances. Jeo Baby has brilliantly scripted and directed the movie by bringing in the contemporary socio-political scenario of Kerala. It also talks about independence and individuality of human beings beyond gender. The movie throws light on various aspects of a family which glorifies woman as its backbone. How she manages to come to terms with the system built by the society forms the movie. However, Nimisha’s character, who has a totally different upbringing from the house she has been married to that still believes in archaic customs related to menstruation, finds it difficult to survive. Any discomfort caused, no matter the reason, the women are meant to be apologetic.Īs the new bride becomes a wife, her life becomes a routine that is taken for granted. Kitchen plays an integral role in the movie where the women juggle between multiple things to keep the house in order and the men comfortable. After a quick pennu kaanal, her character gets married to a school teacher (Suraj Venjaramoodu) from a renowned family. The movie opens with a montage where Nimisha Sajayan is seen happily dancing while snacks are being prepared in a kitchen. But what about the way to a woman’s heart? Jeo Baby’s latest film, The Great Indian Kitchen, talks about the life of a married woman in India. It is said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
